Hi, and welcome to Blogmas Day 4! Today’s post is one of my favorites to write each year! It’s all about ways to give back in your community and more broadly. The holidays can be tough for so many people, kiddos included, and even though it’s always a good time to give, Christmas kindness is pretty sweet! I want to disclaim at the front of this that my favorite ways to give might not align with yours. I also want to say that giving is definitely not limited to your money and time. You can give the gift of a smile, a compliment, even some encouragement to someone who may need it.
That being said, here are some awesome ways to give! Shout out to my friends who were at the ready to tell me their favorite causes this holiday season!
Joseph’s Coat of Central Ohio – (from their site) Joseph’s Coat seeks to model God’s love by connecting people, sharing resources, strengthening families and building stronger community. We do this by offering stepping stones of free clothing, furniture and household items to families at the margins. We serve our neighbor in-need and our community as a whole. We welcome our neighbors that share our common cause to serve alongside us. We are better together as lives are transformed and our community becomes stronger.
I. Love. Everything. About. This. It’s sometimes hard to imagine just what someone in need may lack. It’s more than clothes and canned food. It’s necessities for life, and I love that Joseph’s Coat is providing that!
Mid Ohio Foodbank – (from their site) At Mid-Ohio Foodbank, we find it unacceptable for thousands of our neighbors—most of them children and seniors—to go hungry. We aim to provide efficient, effective ways for hungry people to meet their basic food and nutrition needs.
Their goal is simple, end hunger. Mid Ohio Foodbank holds a special place in my heart and now until December 12th, your donation will be doubled(!!) by their generous sponsors in the community! The Foodbank could also use your time for one of their various volunteer opportunities!
Franklin County Dog Shelter – (from their site) Your donations allow us to purchase additional supplies and materials that benefit the dogs here at the shelter, as well as allowing us to fund additional services for dog owners in the community like low cost spay/neuter surgery, food for our pet pantry and other assistance for dog owners experiencing financial difficulties.
This is a way to help out my local pups, but there are plenty of ways to help out furry friends in your neck of the woods too! Take to google to find the best ways to donate/volunteer in your area, and don’t forget that the ASPCA is another awesome way to make a difference!
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – (from their site) The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.
I saved my nearest and dearest for last. Cancer sucks. Cancer in a child is the worst possible nightmare imaginable. St. Jude is making huge strides to prevent and treat childhood catastrophic diseases daily. The best part? Families never receive a bill from St. Jude. If you can give this year, whether it’s a smile, your time, or a donation, I encourage you to!
