13 Days of BlogOWeen Day 4: DIY Costume, Sabrina Spellman

Hey, hello, Halloween. Every year around August, I am struck with the insatiable need to map out a gazillion Halloween costumes for the zero Halloween parties I will attend. I cannot help it, I love Halloween, and if the only thing I get to throw on a costume for is this blog, then I’m gonna do it! I came up with a few DIY ideas this year (I hate a store bought costume, and have for my entire life, no idea why #boujee), and I wanted to share them with you!

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix took my Halloween world by storm and ranks really high on my list of best Netflix series (you know, right after Stranger Things). I’d been really trying to iron out a truly Sabrina look and season two delivered with this unforgettable moment:

You would be shocked at the lack of peter pan collared dresses online, but I first went against all my better instincts and bought this on amazon. The price? Great. The quality? Better than expected. The length? Cropped t-shirt. That’s an exaggeration, but seriously, this fit like a legging length tee on my 5’1″ frame, and I was only a sneeze away from showing up to Halloween in my birthday suit. I would like to skeptically recommend this for those 4’10” and under.

Anyway, it became clear that I was going to have to take matters into my own hands. If you’re interested in creating the below look, keep reading to see how I did it!

What you’ll need:

  1. A plain red dress, I got this one from amazon
  2. A collar, I got this faux collar from amazon
  3. Lace ribbon, purchased mine at walmart
  4. Buttons, I’m quite the hoarder
  5. Needle and thread
  6. Tights and shoes are my own and Salem the black cat is courtesy of photoshop 🙂

What to do:

  1. Sew your faux collar into the neck of the solid dress
  2. Sew buttons down the front of the dress
  3. Sew lace ribbon into sleeve hemline and, voila!

I ended up spending less money on this DIY than on the OG far too short dress, and I will definitely be wearing this to any dress up events this Halloween because it’s super comfy! Please tag me in your DIY Halloween costumes on instagram @laughingatleighann. I would love to see them!

xoxo Sabrina Spellman
