Blogmas Day 12: Winter Skin

Winter skin is different than fall and spring skin, and it’s definitely different than summer skin. It demands a little more time and effort for everyone, I think, especially us dry skin folk. Sharing some of my favorite winter skincare today, and sorry in advance that it’s not all cruelty free, dermatologist’s orders ☹️.

First up, cleanser! I’m finding that my usual First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser is a little too harsh for my dry winter skin, so I’ve swapped it for Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Hydrating Cleansing Gel and noticed a difference immediately. This cleanser is light and is the only one I’ve ever tried that doesn’t leave my skin feeling tight and flaky. The only con, it’s scented and not in an endearing way, haha.

I follow up cleansing with a gentle toner/exfoliator of sorts. Both can have potential drying effects, but this is a can’t skip step for me to remove dry skin. In the am I use Thayer’s Witch Hazel Facial Toner in the Cucumber scent. It’s alcohol free, so I find it super gentle and it smells great. For nighttime, I use First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads, and there’s a reason people rave about these, they’re amazing. They help my skin to achieve a glow, or at least as much of a glow as a pale, parched face can.

Then, serum. I use a hyaluronic acid serum morning and night to help my moisturizers pack more of a punch. I’ve used several different brands, but find that Glossier’s Super Bounce is my favorite by far! Once I run out though, I’m super interested in trying The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 because it’s 1/4 the price and everyone at work raves about it!

Finally, and most key, moisturizer. It’s an incredibly important step in my process and if you’re one of those people not using a moisturizer this is my plea for you to get into the habit of doing so.

Morning goes like this:

Eyes: Mario Badescu Hyaluronic Eye Cream. It’s gentle, unscented, and lovely under makeup!

Face Layer 1: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hyaluronic Acid Gel Face Cream with SPF 15 because, let’s say it together, *SPF matters.*

Optional Face Layer 2: Vanicream Lite Lotion. My dermatologist recommended this universal lotion to relieve my dry skin and it’s incredible for face and body. It’s not greasy at all, and somehow works almost like a primer under makeup. Win, win.

PM looks like:

Eyes: Same as morning.

Face Layer 1: Cetaphil Facial Hydrating Lotion. A light gel with tons of moisturizing power. A favorite of mine, but wish it had a cruelty free dupe!

Optional Face Layer 2: Replenix Restorative Nighttime Bio-Therapy. I love this stuff, but I only use it during winter and only out of necessity because it. is. dumb. expensive.

And we can’t forget lips! On a heavy rotation with my top three: Palmer’s Swivel Stick, Mint Glossier Balm Dot Com, and some little grandma Lypsyl!

What are some of your holy grail winter skincare products?
