I already feel mean about the title of this post, but I promise it’s all in good fun. I enjoy watching and reading unfavorites, so I wanted to follow up yesterday’s favorites post with a handful of fails that the beauty community of TikTok loves.
- First up, Nivea Essentially Enriched Body Lotion with Almond Oil. I have seen the, “It makes my skin look like a glazed donut,” ad too many times to count. So yeah, I caved. Fortunately, I just bought the travel size, but I can confirm that it does not make me look like a glazed donut beyond initial application. The product dries down in a few seconds, and then I very much go back to looking like an unglazed donut. In addition to failing on the glossy front, I also wasn’t crazy about the scent and didn’t find the lotion to be particularly moisturizing. I personally have cheaper and yummier scented body lotions that are more effective. My actual favorite drug store body moisturizer is Jergens Original Scent Cherry Almond.
- Next up, and I know this is an unpopular opinion: L’oreal Infallible Fresh Wear Powder Foundation. Pretty sure this foundation broke TikTok for a hot second, and it was so popular that it took me literally months to find my shade, or any shade for that matter. I have used the liquid foundation version in the past and really liked it, other than it’s tendency to emphasize pores. The powder version is an absolute no go. I tried several brushes, sponges, moisturizers, and primers, but no matter what I did, this looked like dusty chalk and sat very visibly on top of my skin. In general, powder foundation is not great for my skin type, but I have always loved Bare Minerals Original Loose Powder Foundation.
- Finally (Hyram, I’m so sorry), is the CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser. I want to be clear, I have very sensitive skin, and this cleanser does not irritate it at all, but it’s nothingness is the whole problem, lol. Not only does it not irritate my face, but it doesn’t remove makeup, oil, or exfoliate in any way. Additionally, contact lens wearers beware, you get any of this in your eyes, and it’s game over for you current contacts. To summarize, I do own and use this cleanser, but it’s only effective on completely makeup-free skin that tends dry. A better alternative, CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser. Packs much more of a punch but still gentle enough for sensitive skin.
Have you had any popular beauty product fails?
